💖 Introducing The Pink Ladies of Waltham Abbey 💖 I have made the decision to start something that I hope will make a real difference in our community. Sadly, we’ve all seen the rise in crimes affecting women and children, and it’s heartbreaking. I truly believe that as women, we are stronger when we stand together, support one another, and refuse to let anyone feel alone or unsafe. As the landlady of The Welsh Harp, my pub will always be a place where women feel safe, welcomed, listened to and supported. But I don’t want that feeling of safety to stop at the pub door. I want it to spread throughout our streets, our neighbourhoods and our community. The name Pink Ladies is also a tribute to the women who have come before us—those who have fought for women’s safety, supported one another through difficult times, and inspired positive change in their communities. We may never know all of their names or stories, but because of women like them, progress has been made. I hope that one day, in our own small way, we can make a difference too. That perhaps our daughters, granddaughters and future generations will continue that spirit of looking out for one another, just as we have been inspired by those who came before us. So today I’m asking… Will you stand with me? The Pink Ladies of Waltham Abbey will be a community of women looking out for one another. Whether you’re 18 or 80, a lifelong local or new to the area like me, there is a place for you. I’ve only lived in Waltham Abbey for just over four months, but during that time I’ve seen and heard enough to know that we can do better—and I genuinely believe that together, we can. Some of the ideas I’d love us to work on include: 💖 A buddy system for women travelling to and from work on late or early shifts. 💖 Walking buddies for anyone who doesn’t want to walk home alone after a night out. 💖 Regular meet-ups where we can discuss concerns, share ideas and support one another. 💖 Self-defence classes for women, with the possibility of sessions for teenage girls and children too. 💖 Working with local organisations and encouraging everyone to report concerns through the proper channels, while creating a network where no woman feels alone. These are just starting points. This isn’t about one person’s ideas—it’s about all of us coming together to build something special. If you have suggestions, experience, or simply want to help, I’d love to hear from you. Hi all I have something on my mind and I feel now is the time to speak up !! Over the last few months, I’ve stayed quiet about something, but I feel it’s time to say it. Every event, group and concept I’ve introduced has come from my own ideas, my own experience and a lot of hard work. Whether it’s our book club, the Pink Ladies of Waltham Abbey, our community events or our social nights, they’re never created by copying someone else. When I wanted to start the Pink Ladies, I went directly to the original Pink Ladies organisation for their support and guidance because I wanted to do things properly and respectfully. They have been incredibly supportive, and I’m proud to be bringing something that I genuinely believe our community needs. The same goes for every event we organise. They’re created because I believe they’ll benefit Waltham Abbey and give people somewhere safe, welcoming and enjoyable to spend their time. That’s always been my focus. I genuinely want every local business to do well. We encourage our customers to support other venues because a thriving town benefits everyone. There is more than enough room for us all to succeed, and I will always champion local businesses. However, what I do find disappointing is seeing original ideas repeatedly copied almost as soon as they’re announced. While it’s flattering to know people admire what we’re creating, there’s a difference between being inspired and simply reproducing someone else’s work. I spend countless hours thinking of fresh ideas, planning events, creating our marketing and managing our social media. The thing I work hardest on, though, is making our pub the very best it can be for our customers. I’ve always believed in being a leader rather than a follower. I’d much rather bring something new to the community than repeat what already exists. Waltham Abbey deserves variety, creativity and individuality from all of us. So I’d simply encourage everyone to think outside the box, be original and bring your own ideas to life. The community deserves unique experiences, not copies of someone else’s vision.
